Default Converting from auto to manual

I recently bought a 95 neon, and i've read that just by switching tranny's you can add 20 hp to the wheels which I think is incredable.
So I was thinking about pulling out my auto and putting in a manual one from the autowrecker. I found like 4 neons with manual trannys so they are plentaful.

Whats involved in swapping out between the two.?

Any advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks sean

just get a valve body from PA racing transmissions its cheaper then conversions and takes less time, too. You can prolly find one on MP but im nost sure anyone care to put their $.02 in?

is this for the automatic tran.? Do you just bolt whatever it is onto the transmission.

Sorry for all the questions.

Am i looking at the spacer looking type item in that picture. How much might this cost? and how does it inmprove performance if the gear ratios dont change, bascially im guessin it would just change shift points. Coming off the line would still be pretty slow i would imagine. I dunno, im just curious as how much you can "hop-up" and auto tranny.

Pimpberetta, I think youve got the right line of thinking here. No matter what mods you do to the auto, it's still an auto; tonnes of parasitic power loss and only three gears. I don't know what's involved in the swap but I can tell you that thier were several different manuals used in the Gen1's. All had the same ratios for first through fourth but thier were two 5th's (0.72:1 and 0.81:1) and two final drives (3.55 and 3.94). The choice would be yours as to which one to use, I have the 3.94/0.72 and it's great, I clock about 2500 at 60 in 5th. Neons.org has info regarding which tranny was in which cars as well as all the ratios.
