Default Replacing R and R cables on 2001 Neon 5spd

Was told that the cables were located under the battery is this true ? Also how hard are they too change ? Transmission shop said parts and labor would be $ 435.00 which seems like alot . Would like to do it myself if its not a whole lot of trouble.

well I needed 1 cable but had to get both in a set. The technician said that it was the cable that works the reverse gear . I guess it allows you to go all the way over and down in order to get into gear . He said that they were a known problem with the 2001 Neon . Been having trouble getting into reverse . He checked it out and said it was the R&R cable

most ppl call em shifter cables.
what goes on em is the bushings on the ends. just replace the bushings.
and yeah you dont see em untill the battery is out

So your saying just replace the bushings and not the cable? I assume I can buy the bushings without the cables . Maybe that transmission shop was trying to pull a fast one on me . Those cables are $ 220.00 and I dont have money to just throw around. Oh yea and those are the wheels that came off of my Z-24 in the pic.

yup, dealer dont list the bushings but they can be had.
the cables are very pricey and almost all shops want to replace em, cuz they cant find a bushing kit easily.

there was a thread on this site just recently about where to get them
