Default fitting 18 on neon

does anyone know if 18 will fit on a neon? if so would i have to change the computer to fix the spedometer? this is the first car i ever owned i had all trucks before, so by putting the 18 onto the car is it going to mess with my ratio like it would in a truck?

I'm sorry... do you mean 18 inch rims?! LOL! Yes, you'll have problems with speedo, mileage and clearance, turning ratio on sharp turns... everything that's to be expected...

Yes, you'll "mess up" a lot of stuff. Dodge designed the car for all the parts to work in harmony...changing things like that is only inviting trouble down the road, unless you make other mods....[sm=smiley14.gif]

You do not need to replace the computer, just the speedo gear in the transmission. 18's will fit, but you have to either run an extremely low profile tire(probably 30's) or replace your struts with coil overs. For your tire size as well as wheel size, check out this link to Tire Rack.

you'll probably have a really hard time even finding 18" that fit on a neon, I used to have a 98 neon and I never saw anything over 17 for them, personaly I wouldn't go over 16" or 17" anyways a 1st gen neon, the sidewalls will be way to small, 1 good pothole and you're out $300-400 from warping a rim, my stepbrother had that happen when he put 18" on his old ford escort. I had put 16" on mine, the one problem I did have was with the extra width of the rims they were rubbing on the suspension in the rear and I needed to put spacers in, 18's will be even wider than the 16's.

well right now they come with 16and half, and there is a huge gap from the tire and the body. so i was looking at some 17's but that wouldn't make the gap smaller. so it just comes down to it custoimizing the 18 and i want 18. to fit

The only way to eliminate the wheel well gap is to lower the ride height of the suspension.

i have been looking at that, they have a lowering kit fully adjustable from 1 to 4 inches. i am planing on getting on this summer, but i was only going to get one if i could get 17 on it. so i figured if i could get 18 on it i wouldn't lower it. but right now i may be getting ready to trade it in for the srt-4. the local dodge dealer in my town just got a lighting blue one in and i feel in love with it. i have test drove twice already.
