Default Leaking...

I have a 2002 Neon ES that is leaking badly when it rains hard (like over the last 3 days). So badly, that the trunk is soacked and the spare tire well is filled with water and it even pours down the back seat!

The car has never been in an accident and a service rep at the local dealership said it is not covered under a warranty. She also said (probably by accident) that Dodge had TSB's out and that they replaced a bunch of tail light seals a while ago. But, the Service Manager didn't want to get into that part and wants to charge $100 bucks just to see where the leak is. Did anyone here have the same problem with a leaking trunk or something? I'm thinking of just getting the taillight seals myself and replacing them just to try it out to see if it is the problem or not. Any advice how to check for leaks other then standing in the rain or locking myself into the trunk???

You could always take and pour some water down over the lights yourself and see if its leaking in thru there. You should also check the rubber seal around your trunk lid. Often times these will deteriorate and can be easily damaged as well. Do you have a wing/spoiler on your trunk? You may also want to check that its properly mounted and not leaking in thru there as well.

I would definitely replace the taillight seals yourself. Cheaper and probably faster/more convenient.

drill a hole in the bottom to let drain in the meantime... that is if you cant find the leak.. Its better then rusting through

Eh, check the water proof sealing around the truck itself. I am going to replace mine. When i bought it it looked like someone had tried to glue the thing back on unsuccessfully with wood glue. I dunno. So sometime ima fix dat, doesnt cause me problems right now cuz its been raining nonstop for 5 days and it has yet to get wet. And an easy way to examin your tail lights is to see if you can tell any possible place water can get in through the seal from the outside, then pull the carpet back and check with a mirror and a flashlight where the seal might be broken or scrunched up around all the sides... Also, if you have a spoiler check to see that the bolts have a water sealing device on them... cuz that would also be wise to get and relatively in-expensive to purchase either.

Most likely its either the tail lights or the trunk seal.

Hey, I have a doge neon 2002 and i just recently noticed my trunk leaking as well, all the way up to the rear floor of my car. I notice you all have made coments about what the issue 'could' be.. I called my dealership and they said that it will cost $90 just to figure out where its leaking and gthen they will give me a quote on how much it will cost.

My question is, did any of you find the leak, and if so where and how did you fix it. and how much??

thanks

I too experienced this with my 02 Neon, added to this the previous owner placed baking soda in the trunk which washed up in to the car and I am still vacuuming out. Will Steam clean the interior when it stops raining (probably around July). Anyway cost me $150 dollars to have someone fix it. Turns out it was my left tail light coupled with a body seam.
