Default Anybody here into Autocross racing?

I started trying to autocross my Cobra last year, but it was a lot better at going fast in a straight line than it was at taking corners. I would like to try it again this coming year in my Neon. It was a lot of fun and I hear rumors that the Neon does pretty good. Anyone else doing it? I gotta figure out how to set it up for racing too.

if I'm thinking of the right forum, then I believe that there are a few guys around here who autocross with their Neons. And if memory serves me right, then one of them started driving a Neon because he was tired of being whupped by them. It's an interesting thought, but I don't know if there are any Auto-X associations in my area.

It is helpless on an autocross track, I just over power the tires when it comes up on boost. I need to put on autocross slicks before I run it again.

That's the problem I had with my Cobra. Just a little too much throttle and sideways you went.

www.kcrscca.org for the Kansas City Region SCCA site. NASA ( www.nasaproracing.com ) doesn't have much near KC, unfortunately... They have a Spec Neon class which sounds like tons of fun.

The main SCCA website (www.scca.org) has the downloadable rulebook on there somewhere. Spells out exactly what you are allowed to do to your car for each class (Stock, Street Prepared, etc.) from tires to suspension to weight reduction... The Neon isn't nearly the presence it used to be though, particularly now that cars like the Cooper S are in the same classes.

If you don't have an ACR, then upgrading the struts makes a big difference. Quality summer tires help as well. But just race with what you've got and have fun! As you start getting more experience driving (and talking with more experienced drivers) you'll start figuring out the parts of the car that need the most attention.

Best of luck!

Yea, I autocross with several cobras, they usually finish in the bottom half of the group.
