Need some help....cluster swap
So I picked up an SRT4 instrument cluster for my car today. Well the mileage on it is not the same as what I have on my car at the moment. However before I install it into my car if anyone knows the answer to this I would greatly appreciate the response. Since the mileages are not the same what do I do? Is there some way I can report it so I don't get screwed by both my dealer (if I need warranty work) and also if I go to sell my car at some point (doubt I ever will...). Anyone know the answer to that. I'm dying to put it in and put my blue LEDs in it. Any dealer folks know the answer to that?
From my understanding it is stored on the actual cluster itself and also in the pcm. Now I had my cluster replaced by the dealer a few months after my car was new because my speedometer wasn't working properly. So the number of miles on my cluster right now is not the "true" mileage anyway, but the dealer changed the cluster out so I'm sure they have a record. However I don't want to go to the dealer and more likely then not pay them to install my cluster that I can probably install faster then they can. And flashing the correct mileage onto the cluster....I'm not sure if that is possible or not. If it is...I'm sure they would charge dearly for it.
you should be able to just go into the DMV and tell them that you are going to be swapping the gauge clusters out and that the mileage is different. Tell them your current mileage and the new mileage. You'll probably need to fill out a bit of paperwork to get it done, but it really is pretty simple.
The sentry system uses the ignition key, PCM, and instrument cluster as a matched set. Replace one, replace them all. The exception would be a PCM that can be flashed with the VIN and Mileage at the dealership. If you want to use the SRT-4 cluster in your car, you will need the PCM from that car and the ignition key. If you want to run the PCM without a CEL, you'll need the engine and a lot of patience.
Best of luck!

If you want to put a new cluster in your car go to your local dodge "Stealer" and the can order you one with the appropriate milage.

Guys or he could be legal about it... I don't know about any other states. But in washington, if you need the odometer spun back you can do it at a shop. As long as you have documented proof that the milage is off. I just put a new motor in my 95 2.0 SOHC, and my odometer reads 119,xxx but the milage on the new engine is 44,924 miles. I have both documented and was able to call a couple places and found one that will run it back.
have you tried going into the DMV to see if they'll take down the new info? As far as I know, that's all it takes. But I'm from up in Canada, so your laws could be different, depending what state you're in. If it's different, ask the ppl at the DMV. Just give them a call and see what they say.
