Default no brake lights

Hello all. I am new of coarse, but I have a problem with my 98' neon. I seem to not have my brake lights, except for my upper 3rd light which works fine. I have checked all my fuses and my blinkers and running lights work just fine. Any one have a clue what the problem is? Brake light switch or turn signal switch?? I am stumped at the moment. thank you..

There are two bubls that run the break and turn signal system. Change them both on both lights and you should be ok.

I wish changing the bulbs would be that simple, the bulbs are fine. Thats one of the first things I checked.

Have you checked the brake switch at the pedal? Its rare but possible.

well, it is either the brake light switch or I have heard maybe the turn signal switch? I have tested the taillights with a light tester and found no power to the bulbs, so could it be the switch or a break in the wire? The 3rd light works as well as the running lights. I have to track down the feed to both the brake lights.

If it were the brake switch, you wouldn't be getting a third brake light. So you can rule that out.

The bulbs have two filaments inside one is kind of down lower so it's hard to see. Did you make sure both filaments inside the bulbs work?
