HELP: Neon Wont Acce
Ok.. i got a 00 Dodge Neon.. TOday as i was heading to school, everything was fine, until 2 miles ahead the car started to make some weird sound like it was dying or choking and everytime i step on the gas it just chokes and has a hard time to accelerate.. So i headed back to my house, and on the way back i had to keep it under 2K RPM because seems everytime i try to go pass 2K RPM it just chokes and has a hard time to accelerate.. Now I am back at my house in the garage i put the car in neutral and start revin and it revs. fine up to 5k RPM nothing wrong (guessing no engine trouble here) so i put it in reverse, and as it goes in reverese car starts to shake, and has a hard time put it back in drive and same thing.. I noticed that when i do go over 2k RPM and even when it gives it a hard time to go pass 2K RPM, when it finally does it runs fine.. but then starts to shake again when it trys to get up to 2k RPM, and then the engine light comes on and I hear a ding.. but then when i keep driving everything goes away, and then comes back on after a few minutes.. Well only thing i can think of that can cause this problem is either the Fuel Filter, Transmission problem, or throttle body.. I checked transmission fluid and its fine its in the max position, checked throttle body and the butterfly opens fine.. only ting havnt checked is the fuel filter.. but i need help if there is any other cause i am missing that can cause this problem ?? please help ASAP thanks.. <edited><editID>Coupe E36</editID><editDate>37960.5128935185</editDate></edited>
its a 2000 Automatic 2.0.. still having same problem, everytime i try to hit pass 2K it just starts to shake, the lights comes on, then once it pass's the 2k RPM it runs a bit smoother but still acts up..
so in neutral its fine?
you might want to check to see if you have any vacume leaks aroung the TB or intake.
another thing it could be is iff you have moister in your throtle valve in the tranny!

I would go with a vacuum leak, they'll do all kinds of weird things when there is a vacuum leak. A car with a vacuum leak will run just fine(usually) in neutral, but act up when put under a load.

If the whole car shakes when you step on the as gas that would probably be your tranny going out as for the choking I am going with everyone on this by saying it's got to be a vaccum leak but the shaking could be the tranny go from dead stop and pput the pedal to the floor and if it the car shakes and then moves your tranny is gone I went through that three times already with my 98 neon.<IMG style="WIDTH: 23px; HEIGHT: 23px" height=33 src=smileys/smiley1.gif width=17 border="0">
