You do not need to do any mods at all before changing the cam, but a CAI or short ram would be the best possible cheap and easy first mod. The Crane #12 seems to be the best all around and most popular choice. The newer Neon engines may have a better cam profile than the first generation, I will have to look up the numbers on them to know for sure. Doing the usual mods will give you gains, but if it does need a cam those mods will only yeild small gains. A good aftermarket PCM, the A/FX seems to be the best one out there, will definately make the bolt ons far more useful. Unless your looking to go big on horsepower, stick with the stock size exhaust as it is optimally sized from the factory.
