I have a chance to pick up a late 90s model neon for very cheap. The car has a blown engine, so I am looking to swap in something with a little go. I was thinking some sort of turbo dodge engine. I know there are a lot out there, like the T1,2,and 3 and the SRT4 engine. I am fairly new to turbo dodges, so and info is greatly appreciated. Which would fit in this neon the best, and what kind of cash am I looking at to do this swap? Thank you.

 

Also, would it be better to just buy a engine thats already turbo'ed? or would it be better to buy like a 2.4 or a 2.0 and throw a turbo kit on it? Sorry for the noob questions, and thanks for the help.

Budget is as cheap as possible. Dont really care about the 1/4 time, I was thinking like srt4 fast?

 

you mean srt4 zippy then just do an srt4 swap there are some threds in 1st gen on it.

 

ok i read a little more in the 1st gen section, i didnt see it up there before. Looks like i am going to try to get a DOHC engine and swap there in there with a MTX, but my question is, do I have to use a srt-4 turbo? Can I use a DSM turbo, like a 16G?

 

they should both be 4x6 flange but if your gonna spend that kinda money you should just go with a built motor and a hahn kit. 20g dosent work properly until about 16psi and that would blow a factory motor over time. the td04 works well at 8psi

 

Well i have a buddy with a td04 that i could get. Do I just use a DSM manifold? or grab one from a srt? I was thinking like a srt FMIC or a EVO FMIC to use. I wasnt thinking of boosting that much, i just want like a low 14 second sleeper to dick around with. I looked at the han kit and i dont wanna spend $2k on a turbo kit, ill piece together used parts from a DSM or something, I heard that some of that stuff works. I may be getting this car for free, so im thinking like about $1k for a used DOHC engine (or rebuild the one thats in there, depending whats wrong with it) and a pieced together turbo kit, thats the budget I would really like to stay on if at all possible. I will go cheap, this is just a fun car, I have a race car already, and it doesnt work well as a daily driver. This looked like a cheap option, if not this, I was thinking maybe a turbo Omni, but I'd really like to stay with the neon since I can get thecar for practically nothing.

 

you can use the td04h from the older eclipses.....but you will have to find a different exhaust manifold..
the eclipse one wont work and you cant use the srt4 manifold because the turbo and manifold are one piece..
the srt4 intercooler works great and you can find alot of them for under $75.00
i run about 6psi with the srt4 turbo and it moves the car just fine for me....and you can get just the necessary parts for about $1,000...

plus i have 150,000 miles on my motor....but i am still working out the fuel system bugs

There looks to be about 150 of them through out theUS.Usually if a part is still under warranty and Chrysler has to pay for it it is usually cheap! P/N is 4884234AC 04' SRT4. I also have alot of 2.4L parts (see classifieds) If you wanted more cubic inches.
