Dodge NeonThe sport compact car that took the world by storm. the Dodge Neon. Depending on the trim level you get, this sporty ride has something to offer everyone.
You don't neccessaril need an ugly adator. There are plenty of 1.4 DIN receivers on the market, they look alot more custom than a single DIN unit will.
I personally think any thing bigger then 1 din looks like *** in a car. There is no need to get a bigger deck. Why not just get a regular deck and an equalizer. Thats what we are running in project neon and it looks pretty damn sweet.
If your budget's as tight as mine, I'd suggest you get the new head unit first. If your speakers aren't blown the may sound better than you think they do. I've got an '04 SXT and my son has an '04 SRT-4 both cars had the standard factory stereo system. My son replaced his factory head unit with some mega buck Pioneer Premier head unit and it made a really big difference. Speakers are no longer on my short list!
DIN is the standard radio size for an aftermarket radio. the stock radio in a neon is a 1.4 din meaning that it is 1.4 times the size of a standard aftermarket. Thus the reason you need an adapter to close the gaps if you install a aftermarket single din radio.
i was thinking if i get compnents that have 6 1/2 woofers and 3 1/2 tweeters(or w/e it is) it would be really easy to install, correct? i haven't ventured into component speakers yet, i had 4x6 plates in the door of my old caprice classic and some 6x9's.
If you look at the dash, the holes where there should be some 3 1/2 are not cut out. Underneath there are the wiring and slot for the speaker but no hole through the dash. You can probably cut out the hole. I would go with custom tweeters. As for the front doors, If you order through Crutchfield and can't find the brand you want in a 6 3/4 size, they offer you a kit for free that will fit a 6 1/2 or even a 5 1/4 speaker. The back are definately 6 by 9s. My in dash kit does not look bad at all.
