Transmission shifts sometimes then not sometimes
I have a 2014 Ram ProMaster 3500 van with around 300,000 miles, the automatic transmission will shift some days just fine, but other days it will not shift out of low. Sometimes when it is not wanting to shift, I can manually shift it and it will shift, sometimes this will not work either. The transmission has never slipped at all. I took it to the Ram dealer in my town, they gave a quote of $6781.13 to rebuild it. I also took it to the big transmission shop in the next town, their quote was $8080.41 to replace it. I talked to an individual transmission shop, he doesn’t believe the transmission is bad, since it works fine sometimes and doesn’t slip, he thinks it is some type of an electrical problem. Has anyone had this same problem, or what do y’all think might be wrong with it.
Gonna need to find someone that is good with those transmissions..... A lot of places will simply default to a full rebuild, that way, they don't have to spend any time trying to diagnose the issue, and *hope* to solve it with the shotgun approach..... Which doesn't always work..... Trouble is, finding someone that has a clue, and is willing to go to the effort to properly diagnose????? Yeah, they make hen's teeth look downright common. I know nothing about them, except what I have read on the internet..... and it appears there are a few things that can cause issues.... Anywhere from a failing sensor, to a cracked valve body.....
We changed the filter and fluid, the filter was dirty for sure. It shifted fine on the way home, about 5 miles. Today we drove it for our store, this is a work van, and it has been shifting all day. We drove it on the interstate, around town, and not once has it given any problems. If it starts acting up again, I will post that also, but for now all is good.

Thanks for letting us know.
