This is what my hook looks like. It's good for 10 tons

This is what the hook is mounted on. It's good for 14 tons

These are clevis'. I have a bunch of different shapes and sizes to fit a ton of stuff.

The pintle hook on that mount is ideal if you ever want to hook up to somebody elses truck. You flip the mount so it's up high, with the hook up high and when you start to pull, it's applying force downward on your tires (traction) and lifting his. Most folks don't know any better and makes the guy look stupid as he gets very little traction from his rear tires.
OK, I'm getting closer to understanding this whole thing now, just bear with me a little more.

OK, this hook thing is mounted on that bracket thing, only the bracket shown is actually turned upside down when you put it in your reciever .... right? ( still not sure how that hook thing opens and closes, but I guess it's pretty simple once you have it in your hand )What are the clevis's for? Where do you use them?

That sucks about the guy in the ditch. How do you go about helping the "Damsel in distress"? She's sure as heck not gonna know where to hook the strap up. What do you do for either her, or some guy who wouldn't know either?

That's a GREAT idea about the whole having the hook high to help apply downforce to your rear tires. I never would have thought of that, and it makes a TON of sense !!

Our recievers are OK for all of this activity? They won't rip off of our trucks?

Your 1"thick clevis is a smaller and similar version of what is used on many semi truck trailer set ups but mine was good for 30 tons. I use drive a COE Freightliner with a 24 ft flat bed with a 28 ft 4 axel flat bed trailer, i.e. twin axels in front and rear and could gross 101,000 in many of westeren states except Steve05ram state of CA.

Mayfair.......here is the stuff I have in back of the truck at pretty much any given time, minus the winch.

Ballmount vs. Pintle Hook

The Hook O' Doom

Ricers beware, the CTD makes a great tow truck if you get stuck on this....

What I hook up with....

This is four 30', 6,800 lb BlueWater Dynamic ropes, basket hitched to three 6,400 lb slings. Yeah, I got a little pull with this setup.

This is how it hooks up to the Pintle. Dending on if the victim has recovery hooks, I just loop the ends of the slings to his hooks. If not, I connect with the clevis'

And when all else fails....9.5ti with a ****** block. I have one more ****** block in the truck and effectively do a triple line pull, getting about 24K lbs MAX.

Damn dude that thing is BADD AZZ !! Why the extension piece? What does it do?

What's with the bungie type rope looking thing? Why do you use that as well as the tow strap?

As always brotha ... you do an AWESOME job of explaining things complete with pics !!

That extension piece is actually the drop receiver from my Super Duty. With the 6" lift and 36" tires, I couldn't find a ball mount thta dropped far enough to hook my trailer up. So this basically relocates the receiver tube down 8", so you can use a standard ball mount. It's good for 12K lbs. The other thing I use it for, how you see it hooked up with the pintle mount is to tow REALLY short trailers, like single axle 8' water trailers. It gives me a littelmore room to maneaver with jack knifing.

The bungie looking rope is the Dynamic BlueWater.....Have you ever heard of a kinetic recovery strap. Basically it works like a rubber band and stretches and uses that stored energy to jerk the vehicle out. It'll stretch up to about 30% of it's original length before it'll actually break. It works awesome.

Are you ready for another stupid question ??

How come you just don't use one of those clevis hooks through the holes where you would normally hook the chains from your trailer? Wouldn't that work too, or am I missing something?

I do have a ball mount with no ball on it for that, but I don't like hammering on it with metal-to-metal force. Puts too much shearing force on the clevis pin. To get one that is big enough to fit straps, chains, ropes, etc, they usually have a big opening and this puts a hug load on the pin. If you look at the pin and clevis, the pin is actually a screw. Bend that and it's pretty much shot and you have to cut it off. They do have ones that have a cotter pin, like your trailer pin, but still if you bend it, it's pretty much shot.

If you are towing out anything big enough to bend the trailer pin, you are just looking for attention . I have the front tow hooks, but am looking for something that I can use for the rear, because right now i just throw the loop aroung the ball of the truck and pull.
