Default Jake Brakes?

I'm looking for one that sounds like a big rig, I heard the banks exhaust brakes don't and that there are different kinds out there. Which ones are the big rig style? I don't know much if anything about these at all, so any info would be great.

To the best of my knowledge they don't make a true "Jake Brake" (engine brake) for our engines. The only thing available for our engines are exhaust brakes. They won't make the noise you are after, but they will help slow you down.

No compression brakes are available for the isb. some of the air pressure actuated exhaust brakes have a similar sound though. I don't remeber any brand names though.

It doesn't matter what brand exhaust brake you buy, they are all going to sound the same. An exhaust brake blocks your exhaust causing back pressure in the engine. A Jake brake changes the timing of the valves so that it creates compressed air, then releases it while compressed. Compressing the air, slows down the engine. That is the loud noise you hear from a big rig, it is releasing the compressed air. There are no Jake brakes that I am aware of for an ISB engine. All of the ones available for an ISB is an exhaust brake.

That's a mighty expensive noisemaker!! I have one but I use it to help slow down and it's easier on the brakes.

Install an amp, and 2 external PA speakers on your truck. Then run an MP3 loop of a Cummins N14 with it's Jake brake in action.

Now you have that big rig sound.

j/k

Good luck with your ride.

An exhaust brake can be quite effective if you have a torque converter lockup controller. Keep that tc locked up and you will get maximum braking effort. And why would you want an exhaust brake in town? They are designed to help with braking downhill mostly, and usually with some kind of load. Either trailer or bed.

Good luck with your ride.

The Jake Brake on my 06' CTD sounds like a big rig when it is engaged. I drove from AZ to CA and the only time I had to use the regular brakes is when I exited the freeway. With the Jake Brake I hardly use the regular brakes......bbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrr...................

I wouldn't say my exhaust brake sound 'exactly' like a big-rig - - but it is loud! The rice rockets don't like it when I'm in the lane next to them on a hill. Also when I'm cruzing down the freeway and have to slow down for some old person they HATE it!! I live in a pretty hilly area and use mine around town all the time, I have an automatic trans too. On most of the hills it at least holds the beast at speed. On the softer hills it will slow me down with no problem.
