Drew's Brew and other fuel additive's question ???
Mayfair,
Just by looking at the fuel you cannot tell what percent is #1 or #2 diesel. You would have to ask the station you buy from what mix they use for a winter blend and don’t be surprised if they don’t know the answer. Most places make a winter blend fuel by mixing the fuel 70/30. This equals 30% #1 diesel with 70% #2 diesel. The more #1 diesel fuel you add with #2 diesel the colder the outside temp has to be before your fuel will gel up on you. Also the more #1 that is mixed in to the winter blend the lower your fuel mileage will be as #1 diesel has lower BTU's/power outputper gallon when compared to #2 diesel.
BTW now days not all places use #1 fuel for there winter mix, instead they add an anti gel to the fuel to keep it from gelling down to –40 below zero. Most places that use anti gel also sell their fuel at a higher price then a place that sells 70/30 mixed fuels. I have one place near by that sells #2 with anti gel in the wintertime and they call it Artic Diesel fuel. The place that sells Artic Diesel sells it for between 4-8 cents per gallon more then other places that sell the normal 70/30-winter fuel as they call it a premium diesel fuel and we know that any time you add the word premium to any thing you know it will cost you more.
