Drew's Brew and other fuel additive's question ???
I just got from my Dad a copy of his Nov/Dec/Jan issue of Turbo Diesel Register issue 54. In there was a very technical explanation of the new ULSD fuel and it's lubricity ( page 50 ). I read the whole story, and I came away from it learning a couple of things, and fearing another.
I learned that basicaly the fears of the new ULSD are pretty much unfounded, and that the refineries are pretty much on top of things. If you were to never add an additive, you'd be fine. Whew .... pretty good news there.
My fear came in further reading where it says that adding additives is OK, ONLY if your using an additive that is ULSD compliant, AND you don't over use the additive. Apparently too much of a good thing can actually be BAD !!!!
Needless to say, I am now scared to death. Is the "Brew" ULSD compliant, and am I adding too much? Should I stop adding it altogether?
If anyone else has read the story, I'm very interrested in your thoughts.

You know, i was just talking about this to my brother, but I didn't add my "Drew's Brew" for a couple talks, and my mileage increased by 1.2 mpg! I added it back, and it dropped again. I'm not saying it's bad for the engine, as i will never doubt Drew's knowledge. Just my personal findings. Anybody else?
The only ones that need to worry about it being ULSD compliant are the guys running the new exhaust systems with the particulate traps and other crap. If the additives are not ULSD compliant and cause excess build-up in the exhaust, the engines go into re-gen mode to burn the crap out more often and can plug up that filter pretty quick. It would have almost the same effect as running LSD in it.
Your truck is just fine Donnie.

I've been using the "brew" since my truck came off the lot(13K) and recently started using2stroke instead of MMObut I did run across this on another forum. Yes I know we shouldn't talk about othersites but it is an interesting read.

That's a very interresting article gtx !!
The guy does state that ULSD removes the sulfer needed to lubricate the engine, something that all of the oil companies admit, but what he doesn't mention ( not that I saw anyway ) is that the oil companies are required by law to re-add the lubricity after the pipeline and that apparently they ARE doing that, and that Cummins has approved it ( according to what I read in TDR ). Another thing that I found interresting in his story is that he states that even though he would be safe adding "X" amount to his tank, he is only adding "Y" to it. He doesn't really mention why he only adds the lesser amount (Y ) instead of the full amount (X ). This further fuels my fears that too much of a good thing can be bad.

interesting how PS asked for their info to be removed. It also seems as though, we likely don't gain anything from the MMO. I am really curious as to what everybody thinks about this. We are all after the same thing. We want the best performance and we want our engines to run at optimum levelforever.

Omg, do you actually believe "Drew's Brew" does anything? Come on now, use common sense. Its a placebo. There is no need. If the truck needed it, the manufacture would state it in the owners manual that you need to add it. Its when people add things is when things go wrong. I watch Mythbusters, adding fuel additives actually DECREASE mpg and performance. They added everything from acetone to kero to fuel and it decreased performance and mpg. MYTH BUSTED!!!

I could care less about mileage. I add the brew to add lubricity that was removed when ULSD came out.
