Default costly mistake

Hey guys here is one screw up you might get a laugh out of, even though I wasn't laughing.
Yesterday morning I was putting a fishing rod in the back seat of my truck bending the tip a bit when I pushed a little more the tip sprang back hitting the rear window which mad it explode. I could not believe how easily it happened and it did not take vary much force. Needless to say that this was an expensive lesson after a trip to the glass shop. Dont laugh to hard guys/girls it could be bad for your health. Of course my wife has been ribbing me none stop. Just thought that I would pass on that little lesson so that it might not happen to someone else.

Dude, that sucks! Do you have glass coverage on your insurance? If you do, it's a no-cost, no-penalty claim......it goes on your comp.

Check your policy, it may save you some bucks.

I think what Cumminalong means is that if you have a special zero deductible glass coverage on your comprehensive, it's a no-cost claim to you. Some states (I know Minnesota is one) have a mandatory zero-deductible glass coverage for anyone who carries comprehensive on their auto policy. I currently live in Maryland, which does notmandate the special glass coverage for auto insurance.

Exactly! NY doesn't require it either, but State Farm almost always put it on your policy as it cost you about $1 a month to have it. They will even replace the glass if it gets pitted with sand or you get a chip that is in your line of sight. The windshield on my '04 SD was over $600, but didn't cost me a dime. Well worth it in my book.

haha thats great. understandable though. I'm a firefighter here in california and in our vehicle extracation training they teach us to use the little antenas on the cars to brake out windshields or any other windows on a vehicle the same way you broke yours.

^^ So how exactly does that happen? Seems ridiculus. But as an engineering student, I could see it happening (but that's mechanical, i'm electrical). Very strange tho.

Doesn't claiming this windshield thing raise your rates though? I've replaced 2 of them now and I just paid out of pocket for them.I think they were about 250 or so each.

Comp claims don't raise your rates. It's like hitting deer, it goes on your comp, not collision. Now, if you avoid the deer and hit a tree or power pole, it goes on your collision and your rates go up. Jus thit the damn deer...............besides, then you have venison sausage.

Glass is considered, by most states and insurance companies, as a safety issue.
