Did you take the fill cap off and start draining it first?

yeah i did... i noticed when i also did my dads volvo(18wheeler with n14 cummins) that it does the same thing... we drained all the oil out with the filler cap open and the oil would still spew out from the filter (not spray but like ooz)

Hmmm, that's a little odd, mine comes off nice and cleanly. I remove it from the bottom and just use a gallon size zip-lock bag before I take it all the way off. Drop it, zip it, take it to the recycling place.

Oh yeah, while I'm thinking of it. Don't put the FUEL filters into zip-lock bags. Diesel eats those things like fat kid in the Hershey factory.

I don't understand why your oil is flying all over the place. what kind of filter are you using? Regardless, the bag wrapped over the filter should take care of it anyway.

Sorry, but this may seem like a dumb question to you but I have never owned a diesel. How often do you have to change the oil? It gets pretty spendy when you have to buy 3 gallons every 3 months or 3,000 miles.

rangerman, I change mine every 5000 miles. Some folks here go to 7500 and beyond. It all depends on your driving habits.
