Default Oil analysis done...

says all levels are acceptable except silver & soot... both are at a warning level and it's recommended to re-test and keep an eye on it. soot is understandable but silver??? any thoughts on this?

I thought they were using silver in the egr cooler, or was that the 6.7. Only other place I can think of is the oil cooler having silver solder to hold it together.

Maybe your engine is a top secret government program to smuggle silver in trace amounts in and around Cali. Just kidding. Some metal in your engine must be alloyed with silver, maybe bearings or maybe in the casting for the head or block. Some machinist losses his braclet or ring in the chip dumpster and it gets metled with the rest of the chips and poured into your casting? Just gussing really.

oh yeah also the oil was fresh with the bypass install, the soot could be whatever was left from previous oil changes. I'm thinking I might flush it on my next oil change. the filters were supposed to be good to 25k and I'm approaching 10k so i'd have a ways to go.

high soot would result in long idle...what are you using Amsoil ? and the EAO filters ? I seen a high silcon levels . and thats dirt going thru the air filter !!! and some oils should have soot control in it...but the silver , turbo maybe ? what kind of air filter do you use hope not KN... keep me and us updated..

I realy cannot find anything about the silver, I know the bigelementals to watch out for is copper, iron, potassium, zinc and aluminum.

the soot is something these HPCR engines have a problem with anyway, especialy the 04.5's and up since we have so many injection events soot buildup is an issue. heck, my oil turns jet black in less than 500 miles.

yeah i'm using amsoil 15w-40, 13.5 quarts of it. Drew, my oil is black on startup after an oil change... i'm thinking a flush may help clear that up but not for long.
