Default Dodge Cummins Lacking power intermittenly

Ok my nice long well thought out post was deleted so now you get the condensed version!!!!! I have a 2007 Dodge Mega-Cab with the 5.9 auto trans for the last 4 months that I bought newand its does not always pull the way it should when towing my 10,400lbs trailer. I have towed this trailer with my previous truck a 2000 Ford Crewcab with a stock6.8 V-10 over the same hills for many years. The Dodge is not always doing better even thought it has a lot more torque then the Ford did. Sometimes the Dodge will just cruise up the mountain passes with a lot more ease then the ford ever did and other times it is just a dog! Dropping from 60 to 50 or lower depending on the length of the hill with no hope of maintaining speed! I run it in tow/haul mode and even have tried with OD off but does not help. When it does this it feels like it needs to shift down but just does not and even flooring the pedal has no results! Any ideas why sometimes the Dodge runs so strongly and other times it so lacks power?

I wonder if you got some diesel with some water or crap from the holding tank in it. Even though it is a new truck you may consider changing the fuel filter to start with. Some of the other guys herecould give you a better idea ofwhat to check for.

Do a manual down shift. Mine sometimes does not want to downshift when I have a gradual loss of speed and a gradual increase of pedal pressure.

Don't you effing HATE that ?!?!?!? [:@]

If it's anything I've learned about this site, it's that if you've taken the time to type something out, you'd better "copy" ( ctrl - C )it before you hit the send button. I couldn't tell you how many times I've typed something up only to be booted from the site and have it all lost. It's the only thing about this site that REALLY pisses me off .... constantlty getting booted !! It happens at least 3 times a day.[:@]

Thanks guys for the reply, having only had the truck for 4 months and less then 4k on it I didn't think about the filter! I do have a spare in the truck so I will give it a try. Its funny how the problem will come and go on the same hill with the same load as I travel the same route all the times. I have tried the manual down shift but it just sends the tach to 3k and I have to back off as this is the beginning of the red area.

Mayfair,

You mean that you didn't know the web site has been set up to only kick you off at least 3 times a day as they know your the DF Resident Smarta$$. By doing so it keeps you in the correct frame of mind to help you retain your DF Resident Smarta$$ name

Here is a VERY short list of the people whose throatsI'd like to put my hands around ...

1. The guy who designsParking Lots
2. The genious who thought it would be fun toput the EZ-pass lanes in the center lanes rather than all the way to the left or to the right
3. The person who boots me from this site

I've already been booted once today, and I just logged on about1 1/2 hours ago. [:@]

REALLY ????

I don't get booted from the site, I just get logged off, so what happens is I'll hit the reply button, type up my reply, and then when I hit send somewhere in that time frame i managed to get booted / logged off so my whole post is gone. Even if I hit the back button, it's gone. I wind up having to re-type it all over again. Now whenever I type a long reply ( like this one ) I'll hit ctrl - C before hitting reply. That way if / WHEN I get booted, I just log in again and reply by hitting ctrl - P. It's a real pain in the azz.
