I thinkn I'm losing an injector
Update, I went in for my 30000 mile service before my trip to the beach. I asked to have the diesel tech do my service and they accomodated me. After the service he hook up the star scan tool and fired her up. When he did the contribution test it showed % of all cylinders at once. #2 was the lowest at 92% and #3 was low also, but #6 was showing 110%. Then we did a injector kill test and it was very inconclusive the other cylinders made up the difference and the idle did not change enough to show anything. After it idled a while #2 came up to about 94%. Any of you guys get any good insight from this? I'm thinking #2 is the lazy one of the bunch.
I also used a rich blend of Lucas while on my trip towing the camper about 550 miles round trip and there has been no change. I still get the puff of white smoke and tick on startup and after it is warm if I give th engine a little rev I get a puff of black smoke. Something is not right.

Ive been pondering on it all day. . .the only thing I can realy come up with is that your FCA may be sticking a bit when cold.
the little puff would be from the injector that is shooting hot, and since it is #6 which is a VERY HOT hole to begin with, I'm wondering what would happen if you swaped that injector with #2 and see what happens.

Drew, any clues how I can get the dealer motivated to do what thiere supposed to, ie fix it. They don't seem to want to do anything until it is towed in, in pieces.

If your dealin with Mckinney in Easley GOOG LUCK!!! Walk into the showroom when its full of potential customers and let em have it. make sure to be loud enough so everybody outside can hear you YELLIN. We can take up a collection here on the forum and I will come get you out of jail.
No it's Piedmont down in Anderson. The guys there are too darn nice to be mean, it's not the tech's fault anyway, they have to clear everything with Dodge before they do anything. I'm gonna have a conference with the service mgr this week. We'll see how it goes from there.
Well I got my diagnosis, they ordered me two injectors. They should have them in next week and get them installed next Friday if all goes well. We'll see. I had a nice chat with the tech (different one from last time). He said I was an "economy driver" says I have never loaded the engine past 90%. I told him his computer was lying because I bounce the rev limiter while going through the gears at least once a week, and have several times while towing 9000lbs.
He also said I show 28% idle time. I say NO WAY. He says idle time is considered anything under 10% engine load. I hope these injectors do the trick, the way I figure it, I got 10% more power cummin to me when all 6 are hittin right.
