I have a 2004 ram 2500 SLT 4X4 Cummins and...
I just bought a used 2004 cummins 2500 SLT quad cab 4X4 auto trans.I luv it . It came with no owners manual. How can i tell what ratio my diffs are and if its limited slip or posi? Also wondering how I can tell what engine I have. Its a 5.9 diesel but I hear there are 3 choices:235 , 305 and 330 HP. How can u tell what HP rating yours is?How many speed is my tranny and what does the load haul button do? Im new to this truck thing as I had minivans all my life.help would be appreciated.
Look inside the glove box, there is usually a sticker telling you the gear ratio...the engine has a sticker on it also, I believe it is on the drivers side. I believe in 04 there were only2 differant HP ratings, 325 came out in 05...(dont hold me too it but I believe thats the deal on that). The tow/Haul button is for when you are pulling loads, it helps to slow the truck down once youve touched the brakes...Ive heard that it also shuts down the over drive...Im sure some of the others can be more help, they will chime in shortly Im sure.
I believe with the auto that your diffs are 3.55's not sure if they are limited slip or not, most likely they are. As sharx's said, the engine rating is on the driverside of the engine.

welcome to the world of trucks, you made a wise choice. I love my 05, went from toyota 4x4 1990 v6, to 06 hemi and then finally stepped up to a CTD. best choice I ever made.
ok thanks. ill check into those things. has any1 here also noticed kinda sluggish take off in these dodge cummins trucks. Ive only ridden a few before and all are similar.even when not towing and just driving they are way sluggish off line compared to gas engine. is this normal? and also mine feels kinda jerky when i take off or corner and take off at a red light. also when i slow down at a red light to a complete stop it seems like there is a bangy feeling when u brake. to me it sounds like the automatic transmission downshifting. are these 2004 auto trannys computer controlled as well?

My 04 has the 325HP 600 engine, but it is technically an 04.5.
