Default I'm 2 strokin now ...

Well .... I'm trying something new now.

I stopped using Drew's Brew about 2 moths ago to see the changes. My engine definately got louder, however my mileage didn't change a bit. I was getting mid to low 14's all the time. When I stopped using the brew, it stayed the same, however they may have also stopped using the winter mix so maybe it WAS giving me better mileage.

I installed the FASS about 3 weeks ago now and I have consistently gotten the same exact mileage .... 13.6. At first i though it was because I really like the added / new power andI was really into the pedal, but I've tamed myself a little bit with no change. Sucks ....

Now, I've got the new FASS, more power. ****ty mileage, and a louder engine. I've gotta do someting

I was poking around the Moparman73's site that someone here posted a while ago and he's REALLY into the 2 stroke oil as an additive. He's been using for 1 year now with no ill effects and the way he talks about it it makes sense ( to me anyway ) to give it a try. It's used all the time as a lubricant in chainsaws, jetskis, snowmobiles, ect with no ill effects, so why wouldn't it work on the Cummins as well? He convinced me, and I'm trying it starting tonight. Basically, you add 1oz of 2 stroke per gallon of fuel.I'll keep you guy's posted.

What are YOUR thoughts / experiences with 2 stroke ??

I would not mix it 1ounce to one gallon thats about what a chainsaw mix is . I would do a little more research before i added that much oil to my fuel . My tech suggested runnning howes diesel lube all year

mayfair that guy is definintely doing his research i looked at the site .I just wonder if smaller concentrations would do the job. I dont blame you for wanting to try in i already had to replace the inj. pump on my truck at about 90,000 luckly it was stil under warranty or it would have been about a $2500.00 repair bill , im pretty sure my pump went from the pick up pump failing first and starving the high press. pump

Your proably right.

I just installed a new lift pump to prevent problems with my injector pump. I hope adding the 2 stroke will help me protect both and HOPEFULLY ( fingers crossed ) maybe get me an extra mpg or two.

I doubt the 2 stroke will raise your mileage. . .it will only help lubricate the pumps and injectors a bit more than what the ULSD can do. the only thing that will rasie your mileage is for the fuel to have a higher cetane rateing.

I 'd toss 8oz in myself. that is a 140:1 ratio for a 35 gallon tank. might not seem like much. . .but it does make a difference.

kind of missed my point a bit...

Think about gang... 2 cycle engines rely on 2 cycle oil and gasoline mixture solely for all lubricantion of the engine. Normally most equiptment runs on a mixture of 40:1 or 50:1...

The point is if 40:1 to 50:1 ratio is good for a chainsaw that has cut thousands of cords of wood... There is absolutely no reason why 128:1 ratio of 2 cycle oil and diesel fuel won't keep you fuel system completely lubed up properly.

Like a 2 cycle engine if you don't keep the proper ratio you will cause harm to you engine. Well with you diesel truck if you don't keep the proper ratio you'll either loss HP/TQ number from being to rich or you might have IP/LP pump wear from being to lean of lubricants...

1oz to 1 gallon will give you a 128 to 1 ratio, about 1/3 of a chainsaw or most other 2strokes. ive benn running this mix for about six months now. about two weeks ago i filled up and di'dnt add any two stroke, just stanadyne, lost almost 2miles a gallon and truck was super loud and drove me nuts.

I just bought the necessary ingredients to make some of Drews Brew last night, I am going to top off my tank this weekend and mix it up. I want to see the effects. I have just used lucas this tank. I have not had my truck long enough to compare mileage to driving style. weather, or any other typical determining factors, I am interested in protecting my motor and all its components, better mileage would be great as well.
Mayfail defiantely keep us updated on the mileage, I personally am intersted. I was told about two stroke as well jsut have not tried it yet. Want to try Drews Brew first.

I've got a 2002 without the computer that calculates milage but I'm guessing you do. Are you getting your milage calculation from the computer? If so, will the FASS effect the calculation the computer does? It just seems that 13.6 is awfully low...

Drew - are you now adding 2 stroke? Are you adding anything else now as well? If so, how much of what?

rbm - I'm not sure if your post is a cut and paste from MM73's site, or if it's all you. Are you only adding Standyne now?

Jimmy - I'll DEFINATELY be keeping everyone up to date, that's why I mentioned it in the first place. Whatever I can to to help everyone out I'm all for it. We're in the same boat together.

swil - NO, I don't have a computer that calculates the mileage for me, I do it be hand. If you've never done it before this way, I'll explain.

Fill up you tank, set your trip odometer to zero, and drive as you normally would. The next time you fill up, take the total miles driven and divide that by how many gallons it took to fill up your tank again. NOW you know what you mpg is.

Example:

I drove 368 miles since my last fill up, and it took 25 gallons to fill it back up again.

368 divided by 25 = 14.72 mpg ( yo, I don't have the "divided by" button on my computer ... do you ?? )

Question:

I'M a little confused as to how you figure out the "mix ratio" I understand the "one oz per gallon" thing, but how does that work out to 128:1. I don't understand that at all.

My Simple Green bottle says to use 1 oz of concentrated Simple Green to 10 ozs of water for a 10:1 mix of Simple Green, and Ikinda understand that, but I'm a bit lost at the 128:1 thing. Wanna helpme understand ??
