Default My truck starts out better in 1st than Drive?

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT 4X4 CTD quad cab. It has a 4 speed automatic. When I start out in drive it kinda is sluggish at the start then JERKS forward. (like something is slipping). For the hell of it I I tried putting it in 1st and it doesnt seem to do it. Seems like it starts out quicker in 1st than it does in Drive. Why is that? Tranny slipping or do the bands need adjusting or fluid flush?

Mine was like that too, but I put in the predator box and now it has take off like a gasser. Big difference, I wish I would have done it sooner.

It sounds like you may need to have your trans serviced and the bands adjusted. My self I'm not a fan of trans flushes when you don't know the service record of the truck as it can losen up gunk in the trans and cause major problems.

change the filter, adjusr low and reverse gears. then hit the exterior band adjuster by the linkage.

I do believe that you have the 47RE 4 speed auto.

I just got back from a short drive and I experienced the same thing, it is almost like being in tow/haul mode, my tranny was recently serviced at the dealer and I have no problems in drive, but pull her down into 2nd from a dead start andI geeet better acceleration.
anyone know why???

again I went out. was sluggish for about 1/2 hour then after that the next 4 or 5 stop signs it started off awsome. almost like it was in 2nd instead of 1st and I believe so because those times when i pulled up to stop sign i didnt feel it shift into 1st like it does sometimes.

Anyone else notice on their automatics that when you come to stop sign or red light the tranny shifts to first and you can feel it pretty good?is this normal?

I have never felt mine shift in to first when at a stop in any auto trans I've owned. If you don't know when it was last serviced then get it done as it could be all it needs is new fluid, filter and band adjustment but if you keep driving it like it is you may screw the whole transmission up.
