Default Di/Pricol...Industry leader??? you gotta be kidding!

Since I got this shiny new diesel truck and I am kinda one that likes to see what is going on I ordered a set of the Di/Pricol Optix gauges, Being told by the salesman on the phone, that these guys are the industry leader, and the only one on the market with individually dimmable gauges...so 400 bucks plus sales tax later (this included the autometer 3 gauge pillar mount) they are shipped to my house.

Well I open the boxes, how un-impressive...39 cent potentiometers inline with the power lead to the light, that is their claim to fame??? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! The thermocouple is supposed to hook upto the wire harness with ring connectors, a screw and a nut? HOLY COW! This is like 3rd grade shade tree mechanic stuff here. Then the meters themselves why would you make a matching set of meters and allow approx 300 degree of needle movement on the boost and pyro, and not do the same with the trans temp, granted that is more of an asthetics thing, but good grief.

According to the salesman I spoke with to voice my displeasure after receiving them he told me I should see Autometer, it is worse, and Isspro is just junk.
Maybe I should have done more research before I purchased, but what do you guys say? Are these really the best thing on the market? I am not sure I want these in my truck, but IKNOW I am not going to give the company I bought them from $100 restocking fee to take them back!

Never heard of them so I have no idea. I wasn't pleased with the wiring that came with my autometer's so I made my own harness.

My Isspro Tranny, Boost & Pyro Guages look sweet and match the dash guages. Nothing cheap or junk about them. Alot of people use Isspro and never heard really a negative thing about them. I also heard Autometer are pretty good. Sounds like this sales personis just trying to make a sale and commission. When a company bad mouths others then they are off my list. That's a turnoff.

WOW? Am I the only one to ever purchase these gauges? or just the only one to ever purchase them and be unhappy with the quality?

Actually. I've got some dipricol and I was also surprised at the potentiometer. It does seem a wimpy setup.

As far as the thermocouple setup, that seems to be a pretty common setup on all the guages I've seen. My guess it is a more reliable elctrical and mechanical connection for the wires dues to the the proximity to the exhaust manifold, heat conduction of the wires and the small millivolt currents created by the sensor.

Of course thats just a slightly educated guess.

I can say though that I have been happy with them.
