hi, i just bought a 2003 1 ton dodge diesel...it has a 5 speed tranny, 2wd, no duallys...i pull my horse trailer with it. i have never owned a diesel before. i am loving this truck so far. i have a few questions that yall will probably think is stupid but i'm getting tons of different answers from people here at work....what kind of oil is preferrable to use (synthetic or rotella) and how often do you change it? also, talk to me about "speed shifting". is that when you don't push in the clutch to shift gears? isn't this bad for the transmission? i'd like to get this truck completely serviced since i bought it used with 119K miles on it. what fluids should i have flushed and changed during the servicing? also, do you put any additives in the fuel at any time for any reason? thanks for your patience....

oil is a preference thing... I use Amsoil and am very happy with it. Speed shifting sounds like your just moving the clutch pedal & shifter quick to minimize the boost loss while your between gears.

On the fuel, there is a Drews Brew tread at the top of the forum which will help out alot. I personally use 16 oz of Power Service Diesel & 16 oz of 2 stroke oil and am happy with it. helps to keep the injectors clean and there is a slight boost in mileage (~1.0 mpg).

As for the fluids, I'd change all of them so you know where your at with them.

I change my oil every 5000 and I use Rotella. I have ever since it was new.

Right now I'm adding 1oz of 2 stroke oil to my fuel every time I fill up just to make sure things are lubed

I'd change at least your oil, and diff fluid as well as your air filter right now. Test your coolant, it may be just fine.
