Possibly buying a 2003 Ram 2500 5.9L diesel and I have a question/concern
In the process of possibly buying a 2003 Ram 2500 with the 5.9 Litre diesel.. This would be my first diesel so I'm still learning the mechanics of these types of engines.. I noticed something on the engine that I had question/concerns about.. I noticed on the top of the exhaust manifold that there was some grime and some bubbling type of gew.. I'm not sure what it was, I scraped some of it off and it really didn't seem like oil to me..Which left me dumbfounded.. I'm reaching out to the folks here in hopes of finding what it might be.. I didn't see any oil around the head gasket.. Maybe its normal diesel gunk that just builds up.. I've heard of something called blow by??
Anyone have some thoughts?
Thanks

How many miles does the truck have on it? Mine has a 100k and its pretty nasty under the hood. That monster fan is gonna pull alot of grime off of the road. Check the front and rear main seals and make sure they are dry.
Drr I'm an idiot.. forgot to mention it has 82K miles on it..
When you say front and rear main seals.. Could you direct me as to which seals you're speaking off.. Thanks!

Just look for any wet spots on the bottom of the engine front and rear. If its dry and runs goood your probably ok. Try to get the service records on the truck if possible.
