Default oil gauge needle, kinda dumb ?, but gota ask

On my stock oil gauge in the dash, Ive notice lately that it moves alot when I accelerate. Is it normal for it to go higher as I speed up? and then lower when I speed down?
Never noticed it before the mods, so im not sure if it moved prior.
Thanks

That is typical, as the engine goes faster so does the oil pump increasing pressure.

Oil pressure will rise with engine rpm. Oil pressure will also be higher when the oil is cold.

Don't EVER be shy about asking a question here !! That's how we ALL learn.

( especially me ... )

actualy. . .that gage can be trusted about as much as a pedophile running a day care center.

theres a transducer coming off the oil pump that as long as it sees 5psi, your good, and the 40 psi you see at normal RPM's and it going up and down is only controlled by the computer and what it may think the actual oil pressure is.

completely forgot about that, thanks drew. On the older engines they ran a sending unit. You can't buy that sending unit anymore. They have updated it to an oil pressure switch which means that you have to reprogram the ecm on the older engines.

thats right, until the latest software release the reading was a "perception" of what the ECM wanted you to see!
