Is this a security feature?
I was at the McMoldys drivethrough and of course I couldn't hear them so I shut my new to me 05 2500 CTD off after I popped it into neutral. When I went to restart I put it in park and it would turn over, cough and that was it. Tried that several more times(my 4 year old thought it was hilarious) till I tried putting it back in neutral and it fired right up. Is this some kind of security or safety feature? Checked out the manual and there wasn't anything in there about it. Any ideas? Thanx
As far as I know, the truck should only start in Park with the brake pedal depressed. Are you able to reproduce this behavior? If so, I would take it to the dealer and show them.

I have never had to press my brake pedal to get it to start, just to shift into drive.

Sounds like you have a issue. my 05 needs no brake pedal to be started. Welcome tot he forum.

my older 93 fouled up like that once. the shifter glide in the column slipped a bit out of its location and kept it from achieving "P"
your 05 should actually start in "P" (no brake)or "N" (with brake engaged). theres that nasty neutral safety switch even for an auto. sounds like the shifter didnt quite hit its "P" mark either

I don't have an auto, can't help ya much.
However, I did want to say that It always makes me smile when the drive up guy/girl says, "can you please turn off your truck." ahahah, I love that my engine (not exhaust) is so loud they can't hear me.
Anyway, if you can reproduce it, and it wasn't a fluke then take her into the stealer and take advantage of that warranty while you still have it.
