TST with R49 programming... oh yeah!

So reading the on this thing is definately not easy, they could use a good technical writer for sure. The new setup has a rail pressure gauge, economy program and 2 twin turbo programs. the two twin programs can be used if I ever upgrade to a bigger turbo or do twins... the idea being that for a single turbo, fueling is maxed out at lower boost levels to help spool the turbo up better. For now, I wanted to play with the timing feature and the economy program. Aparently you can adjust the performance levels using the economy program, and do the timing at the same time. I set the timing at a +6 which means the timing will always be advanced by 6 deg and not automaticlly as it is under the standard program. I left the rail pressure at 0 meaning the stock pressure will be retained. Went to the economy program to see what it'll do... I bumped up the power levels some and damn does it run nice. Needless to say I am a very happy camper, now I have a box that I can grow with...

When I stomped on it I was able to hold 40psi thru all the gears!!! tranny did awesome and never missed a beat. I am a very happy camper...

do it... do it, you'll be very happy with it. I like the rail pressure gauge... you can leave that on the display while you drive...

the bigger question will be, what kind of mileage will I get using the setup as it currently sits? Econo program with +6 deg of timing & 2/3 on the settings... I guess I'll find out when we go back up into the mtns in 2 weeks... heading back to Yosemite for a backpacking trip.

yeah, I could hit 18 as well... keeping speeds @ 65 or less, driving like an old man... I can hit 17's driving between 65 & 70. It'll be interesting to see what I can get now. the trouble now is that i dont have a consistant driving pattern to compair against.

I hate to ask this, but I will ...

Do you think adding some sort of programmer or chip or whatever will help me get better mileage?

I'm NOT looking to race my truck or turn it into some sort of hot rod, but I can't help but think that the one piece that i don't have that you guy's all seem to have is a programmer or something and maybe THAT'S how you guy's are getting such good mileage. I've been driving my Ram like a granny all week and when it's all said and done I STILL don't think I'll even break the 15's.

Whadda ya think? If so, which one, keeping in mind that it's ONLY for an increase on mileage.

hell yeah it'll increase mileage... the tst is the only one that I know of that has a specific program for economy. If you want to wait and see what I come up with over the next few months, then you'll know if it's worth it or not (IMO worth it!)

edit: oops forgot you have a 2nd gen truck... not sure what's out there for the 2nd gens... but i'd still say it's worth it.

Mayfair-

I can't remember where your truck falls into, but here is something quadzilla puts out

http://www.quadzillapower.com/produc...aider_xzt.html

I have one for mine and I noticed a consistant 2.5 -3 mpg hand calculated increase. On a number of tanks, I noticed a 4 mpg increase. There is a power increase, but nothing extrodinary. Just a nice little bump. The 4 mpg increase I noticed is when I was driving the truck to work, which is all highways. The rest was around town 60 mph or less driving.

for 2nd gen trucks. . .you would probably gain more from a timeing increase than anything else.

boxes like edge, TST, banks, and van aakien have to be spliced into the wireing harness in different places. you would probably fair better with a programmer, Smarty, superchips or something similar.

Thanks for the link and something new to think about. Since it looks like I'd need the module onluy, it looks like it'll run about $350.00 for my year truck.
