I finished installing my dyntracs just before midnight Tuesday. I learned a lot about my truck in the process that I know will come in handy in the future. It was surprisingly easy to do the only pain was breaking apart some of the seized parts on teardown. And pulling the axles out. They were stubborn. Took me about 10 hours. I started Saturday and realized after I tore it down some shims I needed were not in the kit. So I had to wait til monday and quick phone call got that taken care of in no time they overnighted me the shims. They got here tuseday evening around 6 and I was back in business again.

Some thoughts on the Dynatrac hubs. It's a well made kit, worth the money, and everything is a perfect precison fit as I expected. One possible flaw in the design I noticed. The ABS tone ring is kind of exposed whereas on the stock unit bearing it's completely enclosed and sealed off from dirt, mud etc. For me it won't be an issue because I don't do any serious offroading in deep mud. But for those guys that like to churn through the deep soupy stuff it MIGHT be an issue because I can see some crud possibly getting in there and messing with the sensor. Other than that the kit is great. The bearings and everything about it are FAR superior to the factory unit. I would be curious to know if the EMS offroad kit has a similar design on the ABS tone ring or if it is better like the stock style?? anybody around here got the EMS hubs?

I only have pics of the tear down for now. Will have to wait for daylight to get some "finished" pics but I'll post em up asap when I do. Btw, now I've got some factory unit bearings to get rid of. Only 7500 miles on them. Anyone know what they go for brand new?

 

Nice! what did the kit run you? when you get more miles under your belt with it installed i'd be curious to know how it drives... I heard it improves in 2wd on hiway... less vibration

 

Should add some MPGs in 2wd.

 

yea I've heard it adds some mpg because you're not turning the front axles, diff, ds and alljust the wheels and tires

 

Looks like a pretty sweet kit. I'm really interested in the 2wd savings, with the CAD there really isn't all that much spinning when unlocked. Just the driver's side axle spinning the spiders and causing the center axle to spin backwards, the t-case is unlocked so the carrier is NOT spinning in 2wd anyway. Let us know how much you save, the ability to pull the bearings and re-pack them certainly seeems to be a plus, especially if you take the truck off road at all.

 

Bat...on your 2nd gen you still have the CAD? I thought that was a 1/2 ton only thing...

Yup, still a CAD. Did 3rd Gens get rid of it? If so, that does suck, my old '99 Dakota was like that 'course it was independent front too, that system has the front carrier spinning all the time. The benefit is being able to shift into 4wd high at any speed, CAD you still have to stop due to that center axle spinning backwards.

 

my 2000 had a CAD and the owners manual said it was ok to shift on the fly up to 50 mph... did it many times with no problems...
