Tranny flush
Someone had wrote a few months back that all you do to flush is drop the pan, change the filter, install new filter, pan and fill with fluid. Then unhook the cooling line and start it up and put in "N". He then said the old fluid would be pumped out first. About 5 qrts. Then when the fluid came to bright red that was it. Than just add 5 more qrts +/-. Is this correct? That the old would be pumped before the new. If so than you will not need 5 gals. ?????????? I will try to find the post...........
I asked the guy who rebuilt my tranny and he said the filter thing is a waste... by the time you catch anything in the filter, it's already too late. not too sure how many fine particles are running around in there during the life of the tranny. Also if you look at some of the newer front wheel drives they dont even have a filter in the pan, just swap the fluid & thats it.
It's not much like a filter... more likescreen... take a look at it. I have only serviced an auto once... the mess was enough for me to let someone else do it... but then again on the otherhand, now I have a drain plug, so it shouldnt be a mess anymore.
it would be best to leave the filter in there. . .leaves a level of protection. the trannies on smaller cars are only built to last so long. . .the trannies in our trucks are so stout and built to tighter tollerances the smallest piece of crap will ruin it.
