I have 2 problems. First, it sounds like there is a LOUD cricket under my hood. You only hear it when I get on the throttle, or the exhaust brake kicks in.
Did you ever fix the problem?

"you can spray the cooler with water"
Hey 02 Cummins, would soapy water work better due to the fact that it would produce bubbles a little easier?
I reckon I could clean out my intercooler and radiator and such while my truck is down. Couldn't hurt.

Is the problem fixed? Boots = Yes. The first boot in the series that comes straight of the turbo (there are 4 boots) had a 1 inch hair line crack in it. The second boot looked to be not far behind. I suspected that the turbo side boots would be worse since they probably get more heat than the air intake side. A quick fix with some 3 inch silicone turbo hose has temporarily fixed the problem. The BD boots are going to be ordered today because the 3 inch to 4 inch boot on the intercooler looked rough and probably not far behind the cracked one.

Does it still whistle? Yes. I had 2 problems (go figure). The EGT probe is leaking when the exhaust brake is engaged with heavy back pressure. This gives a tea pot like whistle when the exhaust brake is engaged. I confirmed this by putting some heavy gear oil all the way around the threads, started the engine and no leak. Turned on exhaust brake at idle, and it started to bubble. I torqued that sucka in there so tight I was afraid that it was going to break off and it still leaks. I posted another thread on the issue but I need some type of thread sealer that will handle the temps of the exhaust.

All of the sawdust is gone. Compressed air and some patience took care of that. The truck no longer overheats or gets hot on a load. There was a lot of crap in there other than saw dust. It might be a good idea for you guys to blow it out with air or water from time to time. I know that I am!

02cummins, Do the macks get a lot of CAC problems? I've never had a problem with them unless the turbo lets loose or road debris (usually the condenser takes the blow).
no not really jakebrake, rarely do we see onme that just ****s the bed, few days ago i did test one and it had about a 10" crack down the side and wouldnt even hold 20 psi for more than 2 seconds...when there is a boost pressure problem alot of the time its the boot right after the turbo goin into the charged air cooler inlet tube (hotside)

Has mack gotten into those VGT's (variable geometry turbos) yet? I can say I'm sick and tired of replacing actuators and turbos and reconditioning turbos.[8D] All in the name of progress

oh yea, and they also need to be replaced all the time...its usually the actuator that goes bad but warranty permits to change the entire turbo...

We only get to replace turbos on the I6's, the V8's we gotta tear apart and recondition[:'(]Fortunatly they seem to have fixed most of the problems.

Hey Jake, if you fill your innercooler with water to test for leaks, do you hafta wait for it to totally dry out before you re-install it? I'd think it would take FOREVER to get all of the water out of there.
