I have a 2002 dodge cummins auto and it will go to 20 psi boost and i was wandering if that was standard. If it is i was wondering how to get more boost?

My 02 was 26psi when it was stock. To get more boost you'll need two things. One you'll need a boost elbo to put in your wastegate actuator line. Depending on which turbo you have it is either a brass elbow (soft line wastegate) or a brass plug (hard line wastegate). And secound, you'll need a boost fooler to plug between your map sensor and the ecm. If you buy a chip/ performace box they will come with these. I recommend the edge comp box, it's what I have on my truck and you will build a lot of power and boost with it.

Yes, they have boost foolers in them. Although my edge doesnt seem to affect my boost, I am getting 39 psi all the time no matter what setting (I have never floored it in level 3 though).

The edge with attitude should give you more boost. It should come with a plug of some sort to block of the wastegate in the turbo too.

A dumb question: I know that a waistgate on a gasser is meant to limit boost to prevent engine damage, is that the same thing on diesels? If so, why? How much can these engines take in boost before getting anywhere close to breaking anything? (I would assume head gasket would be first to go right?)
Ok... I am done now... I will stop jacking threads...

These engines are good for about 45 lbs of boost before you start floating the head. The wastegate is to protect the turbo from overboosting and helps with compressor surge.

Hey Jakebrake I have an 01 auto which has the hard wastegate line on it, I was told that if I just plug that line somehow it will build more boost. My question is will that have any negative effect on my turbo or motor at all, if no what do you suggest I use for a plug?

You can harm your turbo by plugging the wastegate line. But without a boost fooler, you won't see any more boost. (Kind of a double saftey on these truck.) My wastegate line is plugged with a piece of tapered brass. The edge comp has the boost fooler in it and I can hit 35psi. There is the chance of turbo failure, however my buddies truck is a 97 12v and hes been running 48 psi boost out of his stock turbo for 230k miles and he hauls boats for a living. So it's about how much you willing to risk.
