I recently added a fuel pressure gauge to my truck, but it doesn't do me any good if I don't know what is to low. I have a 2003 and sitting at idle I am carrying between 8-9lbs. With my box and programmer turned on extreme I can drag it down to as low as 6lbs. I was thinking that you don’t want any less than 8 and 5 is a no no. I know that FASS is my fix if it’s an issue, but I just wanted to make sure that it was an issue before I dropped the money on it. Thanks,

I wouldn't drive it below 7lbs at all, otherwise you'll be replacing not only a lift pump, but also an injection pump !!

 

for 03's thats fine. . .even though I dont have a gage, I know Ive pulled mine to a vacuum in the past. . . .truck defuels, then backfires[&:]

 

Is low lift pump pressure not an issue on the CP3 pumps, or at least not as much of an issue as it is on the VP44s? I just don’t want to be buying an injection pump any time soon.

Drew, have you ever lost an injection pump?

 

If you're getting the fuel pressure down that low, you could get to the point you're straving the CP3. 6psi like Drew said is ok but, at WOT I bet you see almost zero! I run mine at 22 psi and the lowest I've seen is 20. A CP3 costs close to 4K.... a lift pump less than $500. You'd be doing yourself a favor by installing a upgraded pump.

 

the CP3's are better at loss of fuel pressure. heck, chevy's use the same pump and they dont have a lift pump. never lost one. . .but I do plan on replacing the lift pump in the near future

 

If I were to do anything I think that I would go with a FASS fuel system. But just for the sake of conversation how do you guys feel about an auxiliary pump that works inline with your existing pump. To me that is like replacing one battery and not both when your tv remote is dieing. This may be a justifiable solution, I don't know.

 

well, since you asked... my preference is the walbro set up. The pump itself only cost $100 and is inline from the fuel tank. It does by pass the stock pump but, if you were ever have a problem, you can easily changed the plug in the wiring harness back to the stock to use it.

Or, if the walbro pump happens to fail, it's a 10 minute fix on the side of the road. Just undo it and reinstall the new one you can keep in your glove box. The FASS on the other hand isn't serviceable, the pump is intigraded with the filter and their customer service sucks!... that alone is a deal breaker for me.

he he he .... yeah, you're right. The SS isn't cheap but, the pump kit from GDP is pretty good to go as is.
