yup. . I think it is called the CaTCHER though and from reading over at TDR, it holds the meanest 30hp the truck will ever see for the low setting.

yep... Drew's right. here's a link for it... http://www.madselectronics.com/Smarty03.html

The injectors you could be right about, I don't know the older models that well but... it will still cost him more than the stated $500 to deal with them. For another $185, he could be burning up the pavement and getting some great milage.

Injectors are a little more invloved than you might think. They will help with mileage but, like Drew said... some are for towing and other for HP. That $500 is for the tips only. You don't want to replace tips without doing a pop test on the injectors first. That consists of sending them out to somewhere that can do it. You can be easily into $1000 was it's said and done.
havent heard of the tip thing. the injectors for my 93 were full bodied..at least as a new stocker replacement...

if ya know a diesel mechanic, become friends...they should have an injector pressure checker..injector threads into aline that resembles a fuel supply. then its a manual hydrolic pump with a solvent in it...they give it a pump or so and watch the needle. all six of mine (most likely orig stcok) tested really well for pressure. the solvent even cleans the injectors out. there may be a better testing unit out there, but the basic one seems to work just fine.

not sure which company you are lookin at for injectors, heres one:

considering injectors ( body w/tip ) for 3rd gens ( mine anyway ) cost $450ea, $500 is a steal for 6.
