Default Transmission

Well I may be getting a new Tranny before my chip. I would rather sell the old one than burn it up and was wondering what tranny is recomended. I want it beefed for some trailor pulling but also for racing if someone thinks they can out run me. I got an automatic and wondering if a 4spd is all I can get. 2001 Dodge

you don't need to sell your tranny, you just need to have it built. You may have to drive several hours to find one of the big name companies but, sometimes that's what you need to do if no one local is capable.

As mentioned... ATS is in CO, and I'm sure there's some good places around Dallas. All the big name manufacturers make good parts. You just need to find a shop that sells the parts you want or buy them all and have a shop build it for you.

A full blown tranny will cost 6K. To help beff up your tranny, you can start with a VB and TC. It's wise to have the billet shafts in place but, without a to much power in your truck... it can wait. Just be careful !

I know about 30 miles from here there are Tranny shops. I just wanna either have it built up or new bigger one while we do the fluid flushes to both our pickups. We have the money to do it all, just rather beef it up now or sell/new tranny than wait till I fry it pulling a trailer. But we'll do some calling to the shops around here and see what all they do. (plus do it before college, I dont wanna drive the Nissan again)

P.S. Thanks for the help. I can rebuild the engine but when it comes to tranny's I'm f'in clueless

Check these guys out. http://www.goerend.com/they build a mean tranny and have a darn good warranty. I had a TC in my 98 that was built by Dave and it was awesome.

Hey cutter call four way in Tecumseh. I have had two transmissions rebuilt there one was about 6 years and the other about 4. I still see both of the truck around Shawnee from time to time. I'm not sure what they do about "BUILT" Trannys but it is worth a call right. It's time to go watch ice road truckers....I'm out

Yeah and if you can't find something that fits your fancy you still want more gears or something I'm sure they have em around. I see them all the time for older trucks (80's and such) so I'm sure they have conversion kits for like allison or bd power. Something beefy with more gears for more time in your power ratio and plus more mileage towing. but hey. Do what you feel is best. Either way is a plus.

IMHO a Goerend trans is the only way to go as Dave builds on heck of a good transmission and will build it to how you plan on using your truck not what they think you may need.

We have like 3 tranny shops within 30 miles of me I think I'll call first. I may end up just having mine rebuilt, but I wouldnt mind finding one with more gears. Its kinda hilly around here.

I called a shop about 30 miles from me who said They could rebuild and beef my tranny for 2200-2400 and take 3 days. The guy said he uses a Torque Converter that was just built about 2 years ago and all the pickups he's put it in have called him and said they love it. I'm goin to do some more calling but It looks like I'll chip before Tranny work
