Dude, I am on my fourth steering gear box at 172k. If you got 110k on yours, you are lucky. Just don't go and get one from the dealer. It cost 3 times as much and is a piece of crap. Get a good aftermarket one from some place like PSC or you'll be replacing it again sooner rather than later.

It also wouldn't hurt to put a stabilizer on it, not only will it drive better, it will make the steering gear box last longer. I think PSC has a lifetime warranty on the gear box if you use one of their stabilizers.

I have a 124k On my truck my steering box is ok so far. Whines a little, but not bad. I need to swap the fluid but haven't gotten to it yet. Probably run in and have dodge or jiffy lube do it because i don't wanna. I was going to but.... Decided not to because I didn't have the help to do it. according to haynes manual you have to pop off the return line and turn the wheel back and forth slowly and dump more fluid in at the same time.

KG, I was able to drop the lines into a bucket and turn the wheel myself... still only took 10~15 minutes to do. I did notice my PS pump did not whine as much when I was done. It is so easy to do I plan on doing it on 30k intervals... for $5 bux of fluid, it's worth it to me.

That kind of worries me... I am planning on changing my fluid this coming few weeks, but doesn't the steering pump give hydraulic pressure to the brakes for boosting? Does that mean that brakes are like manual brakes if you loose a power steering pump/fluid? That sounds like a bad combo; loss of power steering and power brakes at the same time...
