The general rule of thumb is to have the ball about 2" in front of the axle. The farther back you get the more you put weight on the rear of the truck instead of the axle and suspension. I've seen people put their own in and end up with the truck looking like it was hauling a heavy bumper pull instead of a gooseneck.

with the b&w you dont have to worry about it. the tell you were to mount it and were to drill hole in the bed.

does anybody have a BW gooseneckhitch in thier 07 3500 ?? does it clamp to the frame, I only have one hole in my frame and I know that ain't enough to supporta hitch, they claim that the hitch just bolts right on, I am trying to find out HOW it mounts, has anybody PERSONALLY installed thier hitch in a 07 3500?? how the hell are they mounted???

Did you try the manufactuers web site? they may have diagrams guiding you for installation.... or maybe you should just take it sumwhere and have it done professionally....

I have no problem mounting the hitch, I just don't want to have to drill any holes in the frame, I thinkDodge frowns upon that. I want to buy the right hitch

The B&W actually sits on the frame and then bolts to it's self. Then the hole you see keeps the hitch from moving side to side. There will be some cutiing in the bed but nothing needs to be cut or drilled on the frame.
