Default retarded question

I know if you have a "V" style engine it is written "V8" for example, and if you have an inline engine like ours it would be written "L6" or "I6" i'm not sure which, but what if you have a horizontally opposed style engine like in a subaru car, how is that written?

They are also called boxster or flat. The only mentin I have seen of abbreviating them is with an F. F4 in the Subarus.
