Default Regear or Turbo upgrade

Hey guys, I'm deciding what do to next to my truck. I was going to upgrade suspension, butdecided to wait on that. So, I have to make a choice on an upgrade. I can either regear from 3.73s to 4.56s for about $1200, or I can get a bigger turbo (silver 66 from Indstrial Injection is what i priced) for $1800.Or maybeone of you has a better idea. What do you guys think? All opinions and suggestions welcomed. Thanks a lot everyone

hey killer, for my truck i'm going with a regear. this will probably be for a different reason than yours. changing my stock 3.73 over to 4.10 i will boost my tow capacity form 13,500/700 to 15,500/700. i've done some reading and the power change does notchange my towing limit but a gear change will, good luck on your choice.

4.10's would be better suited especialy if your running 37's. however a turbo upgrade would also be nice

The charts that I read say that 4.10 would still be below the power curve. I willprobable get 4.10's if I regear because I believe you know exactly what the hell you are talking about, but is there a reason or can you explain why to me please, just so I can learn. Thanks Drew

Ive got 4.10's packed in my axels. . .@ 70mph on my stocker tires I'm turning 2300rpm. . .with your 37's and 3.73's I'd say at 70mpg your running what. . .17-1800rpm. all the gears would do wouldreduce the strain on the transmission and bring you closer to stock engine RPM's. . .personaly I think 4.10's are still too much for these engines and the way they run even under stock conditions. . .3.73's at the most with a gearset of 3.54's would be better suited since the engine makes good torque starting at 1600rpm.

I hit my top end WAY too quick. . .I'm tapped out at 95mph. I defuel and people are passing me. pisses me off. that is why I'm wanting 35's and an overdrive gear set. I want to cruise 70mph at only 17-1900rpm.

the main reason I would regear would be to pull larger loads(4.10's only give 2000lbs more towing capacity), or if I'm running insainly large tires on a trail rig and need a bit more low end grunt. past that your 3.73's will do just fine.

hey drew, your quote of only a2000 pound upgrade in towing may be valid, but after looking at all different fiver models and deciding that we will need a toyhauler of some sort, that 2000 pounds looms quite large in factoringthe total length. what blows me away is changing the gears changes the way the truck acts on the three percent grade, timed acceleration scale, but the truck itself sees no changes. but i think i'm talking apples to you fellows oranges, as i don't see a speed of much over sixty towing a fiver, i gotta say something else, i'm a newby on this forum, but what i've learned so far has been a great help, take care.

Would I be able to power brake with 4.10's? I think if I am going to blow the dough to regear, I would like to be able to power brake. I think the answer is yes because I can almost do it now. Thanks

Hey killer I'm going to throw you a curve, I pull a big 5 th wheel a lot and would recomend that you first spend $ on a exhaust brake they are a must have in my opinion. 2nd with your chips you are going to have to be careful with egts they go up real fast when you hit a grade. I am a gear head,I believe in a lot of gears, lower gears will help when your pulling . If you are going to keep the 37" tires, go for the gear change but no lower than 4:10.

I have an 07 6.7 3500 mega cab with 4.10s and 33 tires. At 60 mph I am turning 1700 rpm in 6th. I have the 6 speed auto and it is 1 to 1 in 4th, .8 to 1 in 5th and .6 to 1 in 6th. I tow a 12,000 (wet) pound 5er and have the stock exhaust brake in the truck and it works great.

I opted for the 4.10s originaly so I would have more grunt when pulling grades but also upgraded to the 33s from the stock 31s.
