I know there has been a few post about this but what kind of GPS should I buy and how much should I pay for it?

Depends, what are you going to use it for, trailhiking/geocaching or in cab navigation? I have one of each I own a Garmin Etrex Legend CX (retail 299.00) as well as a TOMTOM Go 910, Friggin sweet as hell (retail 599) I bout it when it was still 699 dangit.

You have to be a gadget geek like me. My TomTom has an internal 20 gig HD. It holds the maps, voices, mp3's, and pics if you want. You can get either an FM transmitter mount to transmit up to prolly 10 gigs of music straight to your in dash receiver, or just use the wire to an aux. jack like I do.. I only have about 5 gigs on mine. .Also it is bluetooth enabled. If you have a bluetooth enabled phone it will link with it and act as a speaker phone. Plus with all the waypoints and landmarks and gas stations and restaurants, hotels.. This thing will not only show you where these are, but give you perfect turn by turn to get there, also if you need just tap the screen and tap that restaurant/ gas station/ hotel and you can call them through your bluetooth connection in your phone because it has all the phone numbers too. I love toys!!!

Yea I saw that. it would enable me to get rid of the factory radio, main reason I still have it is u-connect. I love that feature.

which ever you decide. make sure that the gps unit will accept maps from google earth , and/ or maps of dirt roads in the wilderness. some will not aquire anything beyond the city limits...

I am not certain about getting roads form other websites but let me tell you for certain TomTom is one of the greastest systems made. The only time I cannot find what road I am on is in brand new developments. Even then, the auto update feature gets it right back down once those roads are officialy published. We only had one problem with it ever. The wife and I were going camping with some friends. My buddy and I knew where we were going, the wifes did not, and they were'nt leaving til later in the day. Well long story short the TomTom was a tad off, told her to turn about two miles early. Suffice to say she got lost and pissed off. But all is better now.
