Default Hey Drew

Your sig says 392hp716tq I'm wondering what kind of programmer you're using and what upgrades you have. I would imagine you have to be disciplined with that kind of power on a stock clutch any plans on upgrading that or is it doing ok? Oh, and congrats on the new baby!

the only things I have done are BHAF, cat delete, and TST. . .thats it. . .and yes I plan on upgradeing the clutch. at the 375hp setting I usualy keep it at things can get VERY squirrley.

I'm still waiting on my gauge pod to get here so I can put those in but I was wondering cause I'm wanting a little more power without too much hassle. I bet my cat's gonna have to come off there I'm hoping not but I bet it will.

you dont have to take it off. . .realy it is a federal offence to remove smog equipment from a vehicle. however in my area diesels are not emissions tested

you best gain through the exhaust would be to dump the stock muffler.

They don't test them here either so it wouldn't be a problem the only reason I want it on there is to keep the truck from waking the neighbors up late at night. Hey I was just looking into TST and they are not recommended for the 07 trucks they've been causing problems with the last batch of 5.9 cr's. Maybe smarty would be the better route for me to go everyone seems to love their smartys.

Btw, on the clutch how hard are they to install and is it an all weekend job? That's the only thing that's really kept me from playing with more power is my stock clutch. I'm loath to take it to the dealer and have them do it. I just don't trust anyone else to do a good job or know of any decent diesel shops in my area (middle Tennessee) but I have never put a clutch in anything and it seems like a huge job. I'm a realitive novice at wrenching. I did my front hubs and that wasn't hard at all. I could have and should have done the od. I've never seen a clutch install writeup anywhere I wonder if South Bend gives decent instructions with their clutches.

your catalytic converter isn't going to wake up your neighbors if it's on or off. I didn't have a cat but I had the stock muffler. Somebody already removed the cat on mine but left stock exhuast. It was just as quiet as a complete stock system. It really doesn't affect your noise as much unless you straight pipe it.

You probably shouldn't have told me that Anyhow I've already got an mbrp muffler and it's louder than stock I kind of like the way it sounds now. I dunno we'll just have to see how things go. If EGTs are ok with more power I'll just leave well enough alone.

And hey this thread is open to anybody that wants to comment. For the past few months I've been content but lately it seems like changes gotta be made I'm wanting to bump the hp up to the 400 range I'm reasonably certain I'll never want to go any higher than 500 so if anybody wants to chime in what you think I should upgrade on the truck besides smarty and a clutch go right ahead. I've got a few ideas already but I'm open to any and all suggestions.

cats were not installed on 03's, just 04.5's and up

also you are right thatfor some reason after the 6/06 build date the TST doesnt work properly. they are still trying to work that bug out.

if you are going to be replacing the clutch, you might want to look into dumping that dual mass flywheel. that thing can be a pain when it goes out. I know south bend clutch has a kit that will remove the DMF. this is usefull when you are pushing more than stock.

realy the clutch replacement is quite straight forward. just make sure you also replace the throw out bearing. . .one should come with the kit. but realy all you have to do is remove the drive shaft, unbolt the tranny mount, unbolt the tranny, yank out the pressure plate and clutch, and then work back in reverse order.

You make it sound so easy... but that still requires some decently heavy duty equipment to hold onto that tranny, right?

the NV5600 needs a heavy duty tranny jack to move it around. . .heck the case itself weighs 360lbs, thats not including the internal gear set. I think the total weight is in the neighborhood of 500lbs. the G56 only weighs a but over 350lbs due to the aluminum case. you dont need a heavy duty tranny jack to get it out, but it is advisable to use one anyway.

it was even easier when I replaced the clutch in my yoda. . .the tranny only weighs about 75lbs, I bench pressed that bad boy in and out

oh, to make it easier to line everything back up when you are putting the tranny back in. . .grab yourselftwo 6" shoulder bolts(I think thats what they are called) that are the same size as the bolts that hold the tranny in. Cut the head off. then before you put the tranny in, run those studs into the back of the block on the top. this will give you a better guide to getting the tranny in straight
