Imagine if Tower Records sold you a CD, but then, a few months later, knocked on your door and replaced the CD with one that you can't play in your car. Would you still feel like you "owned" the CD? Not so much, eh?
But Apple reserves the right to change at any time what you can do with the music you purchase at the iTunes Music Store. For instance, in April 2004, Apple decided to modify the DRM so people could burn the same playlist only 7 times, down from 10. How much further will the service restrict your ability to make legal personal copies of your own music? Only Apple knows.
Another hallmark of ownership is the right to give away or sell your property. That's called "first sale," and it's explicitly protected under copyright law. Yet Apple's DRM frustrates first saleā€”just ask George Hotelling, who had to give away the login and password to his iTunes Music Store account in order to resell a single song.
As the table below shows, there are many other ways that Apple's DRM limits what you can do with a song you "own." Many other a la carte download services choose to impose similar restrictions. How "generous" of them.

I hope you're right because in allhonesty I dunno what happened. went to log onto my profile. its an windows xp system and it said sorry profile not available and buh boom all gone. I searched and searched. didn't tink anything of it until today went to try and get ready to get it all on the new computer. I wish my computer had like a raid drive or something that would store it all as a backup but i'm not that computer savvy. perhaps you can re download i'll definately have to check because so far i'm drawing blanks. but if I lost it all it's my fault as well for not having everything backed up somewhere.

 

I know i do need to get an ipod lol. wow amazing i may be the only one who doesn't have one lol. so you're comp crashed one of your profiles too. well at least i'm not the only one. i know it's also partly my fault too because I should have forseen this and done something to prevent but i thought "nahh that'll never happen" o well it happens. I'll call around to a few comp gurus and ask and also call apple and see about redownloading it all on the new computer since I still have an accoutn with them and know my username and pass.

 

this is another reason why I love this forum so much. so many people here are just like billy here and willing to help everyone else.

not only that but if you look hard enough you can find free music, just have to have a downloader[8D]

They are a must have!!!!! Than your computer can crash all it wants.

 

use limewire. it is a free music download program. i think it works on the basis that you are sharing music with friends or somthing. heres the link http://www.limewire.com/.
or you can use a bit torrent. its the easyest, you can download every song from an artist at one time.

 

I know I know lol. this is partly my fault I know that but i'm a tad bit sad Itunes has nothing to help me out with.

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. we'll see how compatability goes at first. dunno about games i'm a big time RTS gamer. don't play much else but I love RTS games. Command and conquer generals/zero hour Age of empires III. probably gonna buy Command and conquer three.

all in all this set me back 2grand and it should be up to date and be able to run anything for at least three years I expect. with the 64 bit OS i can easily add more ram and with SLI add more vid memory. I paid for 1500 of while my parents paid 500. I woulda bought the whole thing but it's replacing our current desktop which is on it's last legs, dell lasted 4 years can't complain, since my dad also uses the computer a lot he decided that he woudl chip in a bit as well. CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT W0000000T

I'm gonna start researching raid and look into getting one that will automatically backup my files for me.
