Default My little buddie died the other day ....

Everyone I know thought I was nuts for having this animal. Truth be told, I AM a little nuts.

For the last few days I've been trying to keep my litle buddy alive but alas, he finallyexpired. He was a beautiful Blue Ring Octopus. For thise of you who don't know about Blue Rings ( and this is where the nuts part comes in ) one bite from a Blue Ring can kill 26 adults. Pretty much the equivalent to keeping a Gaboon Viper in your top desk drawer. The only difference being is that there is no antidotefor a Blue Ring bite.Things got dicey at times, but I managed to never get bit.

Here are some pics. I am absolutelyinfatuated with Octopusses for some reason. They are IMO the most intelligent animals in the sea ( possibly out of as well )

Heres a link about Blue Rings

I'm not overly bummed out or anything like that, I was just giving you a little heads up why I haven't been around. I've been doing water changes and such for the last few days.

I'm not going to get another blue ring. I've already ordered a pygmy octopus ( NOT poisonous ... LOL ) The blue ring was a fluke. A trans shipper got it in by accident and didn't know what to do with it . That's how I wound up with it. Thank God he saw it on his invoice before some kid ripped open the bag to touch the pretty octopus. THANK GOD !!!

Anyway ... everyone here at the office is kinda relieved that my little buddy is gone. I have my emergency contact list taped to the side of his aquarium. LOL !!

yes but the picture i first listed and this picture are kinda old. these things grow SO FAST!!!! it was about 8" from tenticle to tenticle and now its a little over 2 feet just a little over 6 months. i guess octopus's only have a life of around 1.5 years and thats from the plankton stage. i think i will be singing the same blues as you sometime within the next few months but well see. also, the pygmy that you have ordered, im pretty sure thats the small one and they only live for 6 months so by time you get them you only have a very little bit of time with. either way these guys are such a good time, i feed mine live fiddler crabs about are about 3" across and its sweet watching him hunt them. i even make it give me a high five on the glass after every catch! this is my tank, its a 75G, what you keep yours in?

Mayfair, you're something out of a james bond film!.. that's worse than keeping rattle snakes in your house... onlyI suppose the octopus wouldn't get out in the midldle of the night and kill you in your sleep
