I may be wrong but when he refers to the 5.9, I believe he means the gasser not the diesel.
Isn't the 5.7 the Hemi and the 5.9 the Cummins?
Yes the 5.7 is a Hemi, 5.9 the CUMMINS! (Politically correct spelling for UpBranchLiner) I have the 5.7 Hemi now and it does drink some gas. The OTHER reason why i want a diesel

Based what I've learned on here and dealt with in my own experiences, I would recommend the 5.9 (if you can still find one) 3500 Quad Cab long box. The 5.9 has been a proven workhorse for a very long time and the 6.7, while i'm sure it will be a great motor, it's still new and will probably have a few bugs to work out. The aftermarket world for the 5.9 is crazy. You can find anything you need. The one plus to the 6.7 is it comes standard with an exhaust brake. I heard they are pretty sweet if you are towing. However, you can also get one for the 5.9.

As far as 2500/3500, I would say 3500 just because. I dont' know all the technicals as far as GVW between the two, but if you are planning to tow a 5th wheel, might as well get the heaviest you can. I know a guy that had a F250 that pulls a 5th wheel all winter and he just upgraded to an F350, said it made a world of difference. I realize it's a Ford, but that's the closest experience I've had to the differences in 3/4 ton and 1 ton and towing a 5th wheel.

The megacab can be made into a long box, I know there was a post with a link on here somewhere, but I am sure you are talking some serious coin for that. After having a long box, I know there is no way I could go to a short box now. It all depends on who/what you want in the back seat.

That's my .02 on the whole deal, but either way, I know once you go to a diesel, you will never go back to a gassser. I know that for a fact.

Thank You for your input! It is leaning heavily towards the 5.9 overall. I agree on the long Box thing. it would be VERY hard to go back. so much room is lost and it is only a foot and a half. It is amasing just how much room that is. Doens't sound like much at all in words though. i'm sure i will never go back to a gas either. Atleast in a truck. I like myV8 in my cars though. If you plan on a fiver, then go with the 3500. The 2500 will pull it fine, but for insurance purposes. It would be best ifyou just went with the 3500.

I had the choice between a 2007 5.9 and a 2007 6.7. The reason I didn't want the 6.7 was because

1) Though I'm sure its a great engine, I didn't want to buy the first iteration of it.
2) It requires ULSD (though its becoming more and more common now)
3) I didn't want all of that emission stuff
4) There appeared to be more mods available for the 5.9.
