Best Programmer for me???
Drew makes a good point about the lift pump. You should just go ahead and fix that problem right now before you end up with a $2000 bill for new lift pump and injection pump like I did. What we did to keep it from happening again was just installed another stock lift pump on the truck further back towards the tank to pump fuel up to the lift pump that the factory puts on. So basically I have a primary and a secondary lift pump. Also the Hypertech programmer I told you about gave me a 4 mpg increase on stage three extreme, I did not notice much difference in mpg on the other two stages, I mean no matter which stage it's on I get about 4 mpg better than stock. And the Hypertech comes with the option of viewing and deleting any DTC codes.
Yes any or all programmer... like Drew says will on the lower settings provide a increase in mpg.... BUT they will all eventually cost you mpg... becuase of the simple fact..SMOKE!!
That smoke bug will get you sooner or later, smoke is unburt fuel and unburnt fuel lowers ones' mpg, then the cussin starts!! "POS programmer/chip was suppose to save me money on fuel costs!!!"[:@] Speaking from experience I am [&:].
Another thing there is one programmer they say won't leave a trail... hogwash!!! If DC digs deep enough they can tell!!
.... So rule is... be kind to yer truck don't give DC any ammo!!
One more item over time one is going to bedoing tranny work be it auto or manual.

I am concerned about the lift pump and will be replacing it soon. If I just replace it every 60k miles or so, should I be ok? Also, has anybody ever fitted a normal Holley pump or something like that to produce the 15psi?
The lift pump failing is not the problem. What the problem is,is thatthe placement of the stock lift pump is too far away from the fuel tank, so instead of pumping fuel to the injection pump it has to suck fuel to itself, which in result ends up not getting enough fuel to the injection pump causing the injection pump to starve and fail. So just replacing it every so many miles wouldn't stop the problem of not enough fuel getting to the injection pump, and you would just be wasting your money on lift pumps, but the injection pump would still fail. There are two options for you that wil fix the problem either do like I metioned before and run another stock lift pump mounted on the frame under the back of the drivers' side of the cab which will cost roughly $200 or you can get an aftermarket lift pump that is atleast a 150 gph pump and mount it alone in the same place under the cab as I mentioned before for roughly $250 for a carter and about $600 for the fass. No matter which option you choose you will need to place a lift pump under the cab and with the lift pump you currently have working fine you best bet would probably be to go with another stock pump along with it because if you add the carter or the fass you will have to remove the stock lift pump because the carter+the stock pump=Too much fuel pressure which=truck not running right. Take it from me man these are the only options, I had to learn it the hard way by buying two lift pumps and an injection pump. In the end it cost me $2300 because I had my buddy do the work and he only charged me $300 in labor. The dealership wanted $3200 just to do the injection pump and the local shop wanted $2200+labor.
Most of the programmers already mentioned aren't made for the 2000 year models, e.g. the diablo, , Edge, Bully dog. Your choices are actually pretty limited.
The best way to increase your MPG doesn't cost you anything, drive like theres an egg under the throttle. I know, I know, easier said than done.

Glen I believe when jimmy was talking about the diablo he was talkin about the power puck, which yes it is not a programmer it's a chip, they are made for his truck same with the Edge. The onlyprogrammers I know about for that year are the hypertech, the superchips, and the smarty.
IfI were to buy a DiabloSport and leave it on the 60hp setting.. wouldI need guages? I'm not much of a hot rodder.. but I wouldn't mind the 2 mpg increase. Also the joy that comes from the occaisional foot-to-the-floor run to get up to highway speeds.... passing slow traffic..and power/mpg increase while towing would be nice. At $2.75 a pony.. that's pretty economical power!
I've got a question for those of you who have the Hypertech programer on a 2000 model year CTD. Is it capable ofadjusting for largertire diameter? In my research I've found some info that says yes and other info that says that capability is not available for the model for 2000's.
