Default Best Programmer for me???

I have a 2000 CTD, 6 spd. manual that is bone stock. I'll be putting a 4" exhaust on tomorrow but am looking for a programmer. I will be doing light towing(roughly 5,000lbs. for 600 miles at a time) and am looking for a little bit more power and better gas mileage. Im not real into huge HP gains, I just want a little extra but most importantly better mileage. Im also on a small budget and was wondering whats the best bang for the buck out there to get better mileage along with some more power. Thanks.

Also, will I gain much with going from stock 3" to 4" exhaust? Which part of the powerband?

Cool, thanks for the link. It talks a lot about how much power I'll get but says nothing about mileage. Will it increase mileage too? It says it changes the fueling maps but doesnt say anything about improving or decreasing mileage. Anybody have experience with one of those?

It's alot more than $200.00, but the Edge Juice with the Attitude has alot of bang for the buck. Along with an asortment of gauges, the ablity to change settings on the fly and also read and clear trouble codes that may pop up. The attitude also has settings to de-fuel the engine if you approach a level harmful to the engine. The pic below has the Attitude mounted in a A-Pillar mount from Gaugeworks.Worth looking at, and that's for free !

I do believe it will help with fuel mileage as well. I know that there are no guages but if you are only doing tht upgrade and not hot rodding you should be alright.

Hey man I have the hypertech programmer which gave me an increase of 4 mpg hwy. It cost me $350, but I found it for $300 after I bought it at Northerntool.com. the main reason I got it instead of the Superchip programmer which is basically the same thing is because on stage 2 with the Superchip you could only tow 4000 lbs. With hypertech you can tow 14,000 lbs on stage three and be fine. The power puck jimmy is talking about is a chip and I ran it in my truck for about a week and didn't see any gains in mpg. And the edge is a bit more costly than what you wanna spend I believe.

any programmer on the lowest settings will generaly bump your mileage around 2mpg.

on your 2000, I would get something that will monitor the lift pump pressure to the VP44. if your flow from the lift pump to the VP44 is not good, adding power adders will certianly fry your $2000 VP44.

I had a superships and really liked it for the money and the speedo calabration. I got about 2-3 mpg gain but I very rarely tow anything over 2000 lbs. I ordered a FASS and am getting ready to order a Smarty. I am going with the Smarty over the Comp Box and the Juice because I have read alot of good things and testamonials about people pulling their Edges and Bully Dogs off and they are really happy with the Smarty. The Smarty also has the speedo program and can read trouble codes. I just wish it was adjustible on the fly . The only reason I was going to get the Juice was the monitor but I decided to go with gauges instead because I read that the monitor is not as accurate.
