the only thing I would know of would be to replace the entire system. . .

since we are on A/C systems. . .I'm about ot have to plunk down a bit over $10K to replace my two house units. . .thankfully that are still running, (3ton on the main, 1.5 up) but they were manufactured back in June 1984. Ive had my eye on these two Amana systems. . .you got anything good or bad to say about them??? I can get you model numbers if needed(BTW, both units will be SEER 14 and the main system will be a dual fuel)

Drew

look in to Goodman units.

they have a longer, better warranty than most. also produced by by trane I belive. there are 3 top ac manufactere's..

Goodman is an offshoot of 1 of em. hell I have a 10+ yr warranty just on the compressor parts and labor.

go with the highest cere rating you can afford..the units will be more efficient..I had my 5 ton goodman installed 2 yrs ago, the lowest cere was 14 or so ...look ofor end of season sales..cere rated units that are not continued..like they may not sell cere rated of 14 after this september but have a crap load left...

I got quotes on the 16 SEER unit's and it was 1700 more than the 14's[X(]I think I'll be happy with the 14's seeing as I have a little rug rat to take care of now. . .dont want to make myself broke trying to keep my house cool in the summer.I will also get lifetime on the pump and 10 years on everything else.

I also got quotes from two other companies in the area, one for a Trane system, and the other is a Lennox system, both were 17,000 for the 14 SEER units[:@]

BTW, I like your post count

I would still look into a Goodman unit. they cost less $$ and hold a better warranty.

you pay for the names of Lennox and Trane.

I did some reasearch. . .Amana was at one time it's own company(or supportd by someone else but ran under it's own name) but Goodman bought the Amana line a few years ago.

we'll see how well this goes

They make an a/c retrofit kit, Napa has it for like 45 bux. All you do is screw the 134a fitting on top of the r12 fittings. Obviously you should evap and re-charge, but I just released the R12 and re-charged from 134a cans.
