Engine cutting out while towing
Hey All, I was towing about 7K pounds the other day. I was heading up an incline ataround 25-30 mph running about 2300 rpm when all of a sudden the engine cut out for a second and then came back. I lost about 500 rpm's when it cut out and then returned to 2300 rpm. It did it twice on separate inclines and also did it under excelleration onaflat part of the highway with a load of about 5100 pounds a while back. Any ideas?
Thanks for any input...

RE: Engine cutting out while towing
Cap'n - changed fuel filter about 5000 miles ago... could it still need changing already?
firemansdodge - thought it could be the lift pump, sounds like I should get some guages installed
cowboy - can I assume that if the engine light didn't come on that no codes were thrown? Did not notice any white smoke... but will look for it if it happens again.

RE: Engine cutting out while towing
You can have codes with no CEL. Try the 3 click method (turn the key on and off 3 times real fast, but don't start the engine) and see if there are any codes. They will be displayed in your odometer readout. Write them down and post here (if you have any).
